Alex Grey

Didn't expect the Shulgin section to pull me in as hard as it did, especially the bits about his lab notes and how he tested things himself. The McKenna chapter drifts a little in places, but the whole book ties the history together in a way that actually made sense to me.

Eva N. ★★★★★

The three chapters on Shulgin, McKenna, and the visionary artists tie the whole psychedelic timeline together better than any other book I've read on the subject. It's dense in spots, so I read it in short sittings, but I underlined something on nearly every page.

George ★★★★★

I was worried this would be another shallow survey of psychedelics, but the chapter on Shulgin alone is worth the price—it traces his work with such clarity that I finally understand the chemistry behind the culture. The section on McKenna’s ideas is dense but genuinely thought-provoking, and it’s r
